the next Xbox game console is set to
show off some serious power Microsoft is
giving the world a little more
information about Project Scorpio
it's the codename for a new Xbox system
scheduled to come out later this year we
have no idea what this thing is going to
look like Microsoft first teased the
existence of Scorpio last year at e3 but
the company gave an early preview of
some of the tech behind the machine to
eurogamer's digital foundry and with
that report we're giving more
information on the specs for the machine
it's gonna run at a computing speed of 6
teraflops which outdoes the playstation
4 pro at about 4.2 teraflops of graphics
processing power and if you've never
heard of a teraflop before that's okay
because it's something no one really
talks about but to give you some
comparison it's almost as fast as some
of the best video cars out there now and
video makes one that gets close to nine
teraflops and speeds so there you go now
if you take a closer look at all the
specs you're gonna see that this project
Scorpio is clearly more powerful and
faster than the Xbox one s but the
PlayStation 4 Pro comes in at a close
second now this isn't news but if you
didn't already know the scorpio machine
is not gonna play a different set of
games Microsoft announced last year that
it's gonna play all the same games that
are out for the Xbox one s it's just
about making a machine with better
performance so why does any of this
matter
well PC game machines are typically more
powerful than gaming consoles and this
xbox scorpio is getting closer to what
you can get on a high-end gaming
computer and it's game makers already
designing games to take advantage of
those high-end pcs well ideally that
same game can also look its best on the
new Xbox now we'll just have to wait
till June to see if Microsoft's gonna
actually show off the machine at the e3
gaming conference I'm Bridget Carey and
we'll keep you plugged into the latest
tech news at cnet.com
