so I have a friend who was trying to put
some of these hooks on a shelf and with
the hook she was trying to drill the
holes in you can kind of see that she
would snap the screws off as she was
going into wood and she couldn't screws
down farther than that um apparently she
didn't know anything about pre drilling
the holes before yeah put the screws in
so I'm gonna show you the best way to do
that so I'm going to show you how to
tell which drill bit to use I have to
drill bits sitting right here so you can
see the screws and the threads of the
screws what you want is for the end of
the drill bit to just barely cover up
the shaft of the screw so you can see
the threads on either side of it so you
can see when I hold the drill bit over
the screw you can still see that the
threads on the other side now it'll
still rip when it goes into the wood
this one would be too big because it
covers up all of the threads so there'd
be no grip for the screw when it goes in
and so I doing that like on some of
these harder woods the wood is just so
hard in the screws just so weak that it
snaps it off you can see like right
there at the end of the screw is still
in the wood so now that I have my bit
chosen out I'll just pre drill all the
holes all the way through and then go
from there
there we go these are drilled all the
way through to the other side and then
now those are drilled the screws fit in
very nicely without a lot of force and
they still hold on really well like I'm
pulling up on that not going anywhere
there we go that's how you screw screws
into hard wood
you
