go further
I'm Erin Baker from TechnoBuffalo and
let's be honest you've probably been
there before - I know I have you've been
there you'd break your screen on your
phone and you're like oh no what am I
going to do with this cracked screen
warnings got a solution with the Gorilla
Glass 3 and they're showing it off here
at Capcom at CES 2013 in Las Vegas let's
take a look at a demo so here we have
the alternative alumina silicate glass
you see there there's a scratch visible
on the sample
we have a 130 grand ball and we're going
to hit this with a 10 degree incline I'm
going to go ahead and see what happens
with example see that sample that has
that characteristic cracking associated
with the scratch is very strengthening
we could take Gorilla Glass 3 put in the
same exact setup go ahead and like rule
a glass 3 run no fracture scratch is
still present with Gorilla Glass 3 we
have increased the retained strength so
what we're going to do is we're going to
ratchet this up three times more energy
on impacts and just to show you the
amount of energy what we've done is
we've taken a piece of aluminum put it
in the sink holder and we're just going
to demonstrate what happens to a piece
of aluminum that's the same thickness as
the glass when we impact with the ball
of this angle
just give you an idea of the dentist
again aluminum sheet we can take that
same setup with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
go ahead and knock that one see the
rebound still no failure in the glass
sample and we can take this sample even
further by unloading it bringing it over
here to this industry standard ring on
ring test where we can load this sample
all the way up to a hundred pounds of
force without breaking it
still intact that's the value we brought
with last week thanks to Ford for
powering our CES coverage
you
