AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor Unboxing Linus Tech Tips
2009-10-02
so today on my Linus tech tips unboxing
we will be unboxing the AMD phenom ii x4
965 so this is a 3.4 gigahertz processor
this is andy's fastest clocked processor
ever and we are going to get started
right away pull to open just like that
Wow
how's that for an unboxing experience so
we're gonna dump this thing oh cool you
can actually see the CPU through a
little window here I hadn't actually
noticed that before so you can see
you're stepping this is a CAC YC r o9 3
to CP MW if anyone care to know about
that sort of thing some people think
that from knowing the stepping you can
determine how well the chip will
overclock and that goes my phone I
already told it I'm busy you gotta be
kidding me
no ok so inside we will find a cpu
heatsink our first we'll find a
certificate of authenticity so here's
your serial number which you will need
if you have to do any sort of warranty
claim through AMD and this is an
enormous document Holy Smoke
so in here you will find a phenom 2
sticker ok and then you will also find
this thing which is in a million-in-one
languages and is about the size of a
wall poster okay and it tells you how to
install your cpu how to identify your
socket going all the way back to socket
754 us awesome and read this first did
it did it did it to do a bunch of rules
ok so that's not all that interesting
let's get to the heatsink so for the
heatsink on there highest end Black
Edition processor you will find kind of
a Wimpy look in 60ml fan but then
actually a fairly beefy for heat pipe
cooler with a pre apa' applied thermal
FET thermal fan thermal pad so let's
have a look at some different angles
here this is a four pin PWM fan so that
means that it can be adjusted using PWM
technology so that's pretty cool you
could now you could probably swap this
out for something else if you wanted
using the little clips here just pull
those back and take it off that's pretty
good okay so then let's get to the CPU
itself so here's how you get that out I
guess
okay you poked in through this side and
then you push the CPU and out it comes
so there we have it that is the Phantom
2x4 nine six five so let's just take it
out right here on the bottom you can see
there are 940 pins so that's an am-3
socket all am-3 CPUs are compatible with
ddr2 or ddr3 boards so you can put them
in an AM 2 plus or an AM 3 board thank
you for checking out my video blog on
the phenom ii x4 965
