an updated flagship smartphone demands
an updated carrying case in this one's
got a few neat tricks I'm Michael Fisher
with pocket now here at MWC 2015 with a
quick look at the new dot view case for
the HTC One m9 the first generation dot
view case was no slouch in the
eye-catching Department anytime you
convert a five inch LCD to a matrix of
oversized pixels you're gonna get some
attention unfortunately with its opaque
matte plastic the backside of the first
dot view case tended to obscure the 1m
eights good looks so for the m9 HTC made
the back cover transparent to let the
phone's glossy aluminum shine through
the sides have been changed up to
instead of leaving the keys exposed the
new case covers them up with flexible
rubberized plastic matching the color of
the front panel and where the old dot
view case was very stiff when open and
uncomfortable to type on that's been
corrected somewhat for the new version
though it's still a bit springier than
it should be when folded back on itself
the new glossy plastic also feels
cheaper than the first gens robust
material but HTC tells us the samples we
tested aren't final so we'll hold off on
a final judgment until we can get our
hands on production units the dot view
software has also gotten an upgrade to
support more shortcuts from the front
panel like instant access to the
flashlight media controls and so on for
a little fun you can stream custom
messages in a variety of colors if you
want and there's even a couple games
bundled in now one of them recalls the
addictive brick breaker on blackberries
of the past now with more accelerometer
control and the other is a light bright
like artwork generator that I frankly
haven't figured out yet
overall it's great to see HTC using the
buzz of a new flagship smartphone to
build on one of its more distinctive
accessories and of course we'll take a
closer look at the new dot view when we
can spend a little longer with it on the
HTC One m9 for more coverage of the m9
itself and everything else coming out of
HTC at MWC 2015 check out the links
above and follow us on the ground in
Barcelona at the links in the
description below until next time this
has been michael fisher with PocketNow
captain two phones on twitter back soon
with much more from MWC
