whether it's truly the next flagship
killer remains to be seen but the sequel
to the blockbuster 1+1 brings a solid
set of standouts at a stunning price
point i'm michael fisher with pocket now
and this smartphone costs less than four
hundred dollars here's what comes in the
box with the oneplus 2 1 plus didn't
exactly innovate on the unboxing
experience here but importantly neither
did it skimp the box exterior is soft
and expensive feeling and the contents
within are tightly integrated with no
wasted space and no chintzy packaging
the phone is the first thing you see
when the lid finally pops off which
we'll get to in a second there's only a
wall adapter and cable beneath the
minimal paperwork but even these ho-hum
accessories are a treat the wall wart
stands out with custom branding and
colors and the flat wide USB cable with
the reversible type-c connector is
finished in very high quality rubber it
feels almost impossibly soft along with
the strap for keeping it coiled when
traveling this is one of the highest end
cables I've handled which is weird to
say I mean who cares right but it's not
so much about these accessories
themselves as the level of attention
that they events quality accessories
make you feel taken care of and given
the low price point of this smartphone
it's impressive that oneplus chose not
to compromise in this regard the oneplus
2 itself comes in a translucent jacket
that calls out its key features many of
which we had a look at in our earlier
hands-on video like the fingerprint
scanner and alerts which peeling off the
various protective layers and holding
the phone for the first time man that
sandstone you guys
I felt it before last year's oneplus one
had it so it's not new by any means but
what a distinctive tactility that
sandpaper like finish lens the phone
pairing that rough texture with the
phone's ample mass gives the oneplus 2 a
feel and hand unmatched by anyone else
and it helps with the grip too that's
important on a phone as big as this it
slots in between the galaxy s6 and Nexus
6 on our impromptu size can
Harrison here and it certainly feels as
big as it looks much has been made of
the 1 plus 2s internals the Snapdragon
810 processor the 3 gigs of ram the 13
megapixel camera the lack of NFC at
quick charging and so on and so on and
we'll get to all that stuff in a full
review coming up I was actually more
excited to try something comparatively
mundane though the dual SIM card slots
which are hidden beneath the protective
style swap cover the cover takes some
serious effort to pry off by the way I'm
a little concerned about the longevity
of these clips if you swap often anyway
the SIM tray slides out to accommodate 2
nano SIM cards side-by-side we're using
t-mobile and AT&T here and the oneplus 2
radio hardware offers support for all
the LTE bands we need for each carrier
powering up the phone brings that big 5
and a half inch display to life and just
like it was in San Francisco it's bright
sharp and very readable even outdoors
the software here is oxygen OS 2.0 a
custom build of Android 5.1.1 that
includes a lot of behind the scenes
customizations to background processes
and also more visible features like
gesture input enhanced app permissions
controls being able to switch between
hardware buttons and soft keys and so on
the oxygen OS footprint is pretty
typical our review sample is the pricier
64 gig model but only 54 gigs are
available to the end-user how the phone
performs on the day-to-day and how well
it stacks up to smartphones twice its
price we'll cover in the coming weeks of
features comparisons and of course our
full review at pocket now let us know in
the comments what questions you want
answered and we'll do our best to get to
them till then thanks to oneplus for the
review device and thanks to you for
tuning in this has been michael fisher
captain 2 phones on twitter thanks for
watching we'll see you real soon
you
