Samsung Galaxy A5 hands-on (CES 2015)

2015-01-06
if you liked the Samsung Galaxy alpha but balked at a high price tag the Samsung Galaxy a5 may be the phone for you i'm michael fisher with pocket now and this is a first look from CES 2015 the a5 is one of only two new handsets Samsung is showing at the CES it's the higher end of the two but that doesn't mean much when the main focus is affordability we're looking at a five inch full HD Super AMOLED display with Android 4.4 KitKat and Samsung's custom interface running on a 1.2 gigahertz quad-core processor and 16 gigs of on-board storage the non removable battery is pretty small at 2,300 milliamp hours and the extras like the fingerprint scanner and heartrate monitor are nowhere to be found the excitement here comes in terms of build quality an area Samsung has been improving on the high-end and now we see the same beveled aluminum construction trickling down to the mid-range the phone is thin at six point seven millimeters cool to the touch and very rigid in the hand nothing like the creaky plastic Samsung's of the past and we've got nice bonuses like a 5 megapixel front-facing selfie cam and a 13 megapixel main shooter with expandable memory if you're planning on being photographically prolific the casing is available in a variety of colors as well the galaxy a5 is on sale in certain Asian markets now with no current announcements regarding further availability personally I'm still holding out for a refreshed Galaxy alpha but if you're more concerned with saving dough than flag shipping it up the a5 maybe a more sensible choice for more from CES 2015 follow PocketNow and all the usual social feeds subscribe here on youtube and follow the guys on the ground as well links in the description below til next time that's been michael fisher backed up by Jaime Rivera and hi Otto Houston back with more soon from Las Vegas
