Xperia Z5 Premium: Hands On with the First 4K Smartphone
Xperia Z5 Premium: Hands On with the First 4K Smartphone
2015-09-04
it's a super-sized super glossy super
SPECT smartphone but let's face it the
first thing people see when they look at
the sony xperia z5 premium is 4k from
Aoife 2015 i'm michael fisher with
pocket now let's go hands-on sony was
very cautious about allowing hands-on
time with this device so we weren't able
to hold it for long and we weren't
allowed to play with the software at all
fortunately we're not expecting the
premium trim to stray too far from the
standard z5 in that regard so if you've
already seen our hands-on with that
device you've probably got a pretty good
idea how the software looks the real
story here is the display the first-ever
4k screen on a smart phone sony has a
ton of exhibit setup at its booth here
to demonstrate the new panel superiority
but it doesn't translate well on film
and frankly it's hard to trust a vendors
show floor demo in any case also not to
be too much of a wet blanket but are
there that many people clamoring for 4k
resolution on a 5.5 inch screen this
seems more like a publicity play than
anything else
proof that not only is Sony sticking to
its guns and smartphones it's bringing
technology no one else can or at least
that no one else is willing to and
there's no denying its spec power when
you see 806 pixels per inch on a spec
sheet well there's something to be said
for extravagance speaking of the z5
premium is the only z5 model to carry a
glass back with options for gold black
and this very eye-catching Chrome yes
it's a never-ending fingerprint pad but
like Samsung's new offerings it looks so
good in person that it just might be
worth carrying a chamois for or I guess
wearing gloves all the time the frame is
metal and edged with a sharp-looking
Xperia logo and it's seven point eight
millimeter chassis makes it feel lighter
than its hundred eighty grams but not so
much so that it feels insubstantial this
is an ostentatious phone built for
people who want to be noticed there's
tons of other specs to chew on including
the newly redesigned 23 megapixel camera
module side mounted fingerprint scanner
the 34 30ml
our battery 200 gig microSD expansion
and two Snapdragon 810 with three gigs
of RAM if that last bit worries you
because of the a-10s reported thermal
issues don't sweat it
the premium is rated to IP 65 and 68 so
you can just dunk it in a sink full of
ice water to cool it off the Sony Xperia
z5 premium will launch in November but
you'd better start saving your pennies
now pre-order pricing currently stands
at 629 pounds in the UK translating to
over 950 US dollars if that's a little
much for year there were two other
smartphones shown at the Sony booth this
if I go check out our hands-on is here
at YouTube and follow the
up-to-the-minute news at pocketnow.com
till next time there's been Michael
Fisher with high auto Houston at my side
from Aoife 2015 in Berlin stick around
for more
