hey it's Monday June 25th 2012 and
you're about to spend 90 seconds on the
verge
I'm Josh Topolsky editor-in-chief of The
Verge and if you're wondering what
you're watching right now it's our new
daily video show where we give you the
most important stories in about a minute
and a half
Microsoft is on a spending spree they
just dropped 1.2 billion dollars on yeah
more the enterprise social networking
service now if that sounds like a lot of
money don't get too excited
they spent eight point five billion on
skype recently company CEO Steve Ballmer
says that the product will remain
separate but will become a fundamental
part of the office family so
congratulations yeah more unfortunately
you have to share a room with outlook
elsewhere on the news is mounting
evidence that Google is really going to
release its own tablet this week at its
IO event
Gizmodo australia published info that
they say is from a leaked training
document detailing the device apparently
it's gonna be seven inches
it'll be manufactured by Asus will have
a Tegra chipset inside and will start
selling for the price of $199 with a
$249 option that has more storage the
tablet will likely be the first device
running jellybean the next version of
Android but you don't have to take my
word for it we're gonna be out there
covering the event live so I would just
keep refreshing the verge until
something new appears and finally Nokia
is selling a smartphone that is not a
Windows Phone device it's called the 808
PureView and it's got a 41 megapixel
camera and it runs Symbian which is
basically a dead operating system the
device can't be purchased in America yet
but it is up for pre-order and amazon
for the low and attractive price of $699
we reviewed the phone and give it a 6
point one which is probably pretty
generous though it does take really
beautiful pictures actually it would
make a great companion to a real
smartphone and that's all the news for
the day we'll be back tomorrow when
we're taking a look at hoverboards
they're cool but are they safe
