hi I'm Lauren good with the verge here
at Roku's offices in Silicon Valley and
we're here at Roku today because we're
taking a look at a bunch of new hardware
it is the fall which means it's time for
a hardware refresh and Roku has gone
ahead and effectively replaced its
streaming media players with a bunch of
new boxes so let's go take a look so
let's start with the Refresh of the Roku
one which is now called the Express it's
about 75% smaller than the original one
and offers double the processing power
this is also the cheapest truck whoever
starting at just $30 there's a version
of it that is a little bit more
expensive called the Roku Express plus
that one comes with composite cables for
people who have TVs without HDMI ports
then there's the Roku premiere which
replaces the Roku 2 this one costs $80
it supports 4k video at 60 frames per
second it has a quad-core processor and
an IR remote and then the next step up
from that is the Roku premiere plus
which replaces the Roku 3 and costs $100
now this is very similar to the Premier
box with the same quad core processor
but it does support HDR video in
addition to 4k it has an Ethernet port
and a microSD slot and then the remote
has a headphone jack for private
listening and finally there's the new
top-of-the-line Roku the hundred and
thirty dollar Roku ultra replaces the
Roku for like the premiere boxes this
one supports 4k video and HDR but the
big difference is that this box has a
USB port for plugging in your own thumb
drive with locally stored media and the
remote has a few different features to
has voice search find my remote feature
even a be gaming buttons now these are
just the boxes by the way Roku isn't
updating its streaming stick which it
released earlier this year
Roku software is also getting an upgrade
which will roll out to all Roku users
although it's not a major update it's
still roku OS 7 this includes a night
listening mode that will compress the
audio so that the
thick and loud explosive noises are
closer to the dialog levels and Roku has
tweaked its search again
to make it easier for you to find stuff
that's on roku in addition to the
software changes roku says it now
supports more than 3500 channels on its
streaming media players which is a lot
of channels and I'm sure not everybody's
going to watch all of them still nice to
have the option also worth noting that
Roku still calls them channels unlike
one of its biggest competitors Apple
which believes that apps are the future
of streaming media all these new devices
are gonna be shifting sometime in
October along with the new software so
stay tuned for our full review on the
verge comm alright hi I'm Laurie I'll
just say I'm warned good rather than hi
hi hello ok what's up party people
