Hands-on with Notch, a next-generation motion tracker

well this is Russell from the verge and
we're looking at knotch
it's a motion tracker like jawbone or
Fitbit but this one goes farther
tracking different parts of your body
independently the idea is that you put
sensors like this on your wrist your
elbow your torso and then get data from
all of them at once so if you want to
know how high you can karate kick for
instance this will tell you along with
momentum and skeleton tracking info the
CEO calls it's symbolic muscle memory a
way of quantifying specific motion like
a cartwheel or a tennis serve this one's
just a prototype the Kickstarter
launches next month with a bare-bones
tracking system but the cool stuff will
come when we see what people can build
on top of it
the company says they've seen interest
from martial artists dancers skydivers
anyone who wants to track a certain
motion so they can study it and
recapture it later
beyond the obvious physical uses
something like this can be used for
Gollum style motion capture physical
therapy or things we haven't even
thought of yet at the moment what it
does is just give you a lot of
information about how your body is
moving at any given time
you
