company MakerBot has announced IRL copy
and paste it's a prototype desktop 3d
scanner called the digitizer and uses a
combination of cameras and lasers to
scan objects and turn them into digital
files they can then be printed out on
the company's line of 3d printers no
experience in 3d modeling necessary
there's no word yet on price release
date or whether you can clone your own
digitizer with digitizer speaking of 3d
printing this time-honored tradition is
now being used in one unexpected place
up here earlier this week a patient in
the US had 75% of his skull replaced
with a 3d printed prosthetic the implant
was approved by the FDA last month the
company behind the implant says it can
create similar pieces in just two weeks
